Society’s program focuses on role of DNA in genealogy

SGS meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at Southington Historical Society, 239 Main St.

SOUTHINGTON – Several programs hosted this year by the Southington Genealogical Society have examined how DNA can play a role in discovering and affirming family ancestors. A free program on Tuesday, Aug. 27 will feature the pre-recorded webinar, “Can mtDNA and xDNA help topple Geoff’s Brick Wall?” provided by Legacy FamilyTree Webinars. MtDNA refers to DNA that is passed through the maternal line from mothers to daughters and sons. This hybrid meeting will be held in-person and via Zoom at 7 p.m. at the Southington Historical Society, 239 Main St.

Now celebrating its 40th year, SGS meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the historical society.
