Kleindeutschland: Researching Your Ancestors in Manhattan’s Little Germany

On Tuesday, September 25, 2018, the Southington Genealogical Society is pleased to sponsor a program entitled “Kleindeutschland: Researching Your Ancestors in Manhattan’s Little Germany” with Dr. Joseph Lieby.

In this lecture, Mr. Lieby will discuss Kleindeutschland, an area in lower Manhattan became known as Little Germany. By 1855, there were only two German speaking cities that were larger than Manhattan’s Kleindeutschland. Learn about this German community, and how to research your ancestors who lived there. There will be an opportunity for questions and answers.

Joseph Lieby is the current President of the Palatines to America: National German Genealogy Society. He retired as a school district administrator, and has over twenty years experience in genealogical research in the New York, New Jersey area. He has spoken at national and regional societies and has published articles on his research interests in his blog, palatinenotes.blogspot.com, and in the New York Palatines newsletter of which he is the editor.

The meeting will be held at The Orchards at Southington in their second floor community room at 7 pm (note new time). There is no admission charge and no obligation to become a member. No reservations are necessary. The facility is handicapped accessible with an elevator.

The Southington Genealogical Society is a non-profit organization located in central Connecticut that promotes the accurate recording, research and preservation of family history.
